Royal appointment for Maidenhead United Ladies

 

Maidenhead United Ladies have secured a major pre-season coup by signing up Ryan Salmon as their new coach.

Salmon, who was training Reading Royals in the National League last season, will take over as first team coach at Maidenhead United Ladies on July 1.

“I am delighted to become part of Maidenhead United Ladies FC and look forward to working alongside team manager Mike Stevens,” said Salmon.

"I believe that with the set up we already have in place and the big future plans we have, we can move this club forward and achieve great success along the way.

"These are exciting times for everybody involved at Maidenhead United Ladies FC and I am looking forward to being an integral part of this, and relishing the challenge ahead.”

Maidenhead United Ladies will compete in the Southern Regional League next season, the third highest league in English women's football, and are expected to challenge for promotion.

Maidenhead United Ladies play their first ever game at Maidenhead United FC's York Road ground against Reading FC Women on Sunday, August 24 (kick-off 2pm). Entry to this match is free.

Sunday, August 24 (kick off 2pm) is now confirmed as the new date for MUFC Ladies first team v Reading FC Women.

This will be MUFC Ladies' first ever game at York Road. It will be free entry  to encourage as many people as possible to come along.

Maidenhead United Football Club will be one of the leading clubs in English women's football next season after announcing the introduction of Maidenhead United FC Ladies today (Thursday, May 8).

Maidenhead United Ladies will play in Division One of the Southern Regional League - the third highest league in women's football in England - and are expected to challenge for promotion in their first season. And, typically, teams who win promotion from Division One of the Southern Regional League go on to win a second successive promotion.

Maidenhead United Ladies will be playing one division below the likes of Wycombe, Southampton Women and Oxford United, and just two divisions below the likes of Reading FC Women, Bournemouth, Plymouth, Swindon, Luton and QPR.And there is a possibility Maidenhead United Ladies could meet the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the Womens FA Cup.

The Maidenhead United Ladies first team will play at Maidenhead United FC's famous York Road ground – officially recognised by the Football Association as the world's oldest continuously used ground by the same club. Games will take place on Sundays, with a 2pm kick-off. Maidenhead United Football Club's chairman Una Loughrey said: "I am delighted that we are introducing Maidenhead United FC Ladies. This is an exciting development for Maidenhead United Football Club and a great way for us to include girls in the development of the club. "I hope that more girls in the Maidenhead area will come forward to join the club and play for our Maidenhead United Ladies and Maidenhead Girls teams next season."

 Maidenhead United Ladies will also run a reserve team. And Maidenhead United FC are introducing Maidenhead Girls under 17s and under 16s teams in partnership with Maidenhead Boys and Girls FC, the official feeder club for Maidenhead United FC and Maidenhead United Ladies, with boys and girls teams at all age levels from under 7s upwards.

 The Maidenhead United Ladies first team will initially be made up of players from the Burnham Ladies team which has enjoyed a good season in the Southern Region League Division One, plus players from the highly successful Maidenhead Boys and Girls FC under 17s Girls team which won every league game this season.

 If Maidenhead United Ladies win promotion next season, they will then be just two more promotions away from playing in the FA Womens Premier League.

 The first target for Maidenhead United Ladies is promotion to the Southern Region League Premier Division. The next target after that is the Combination South League, then above that league is the FA Womens Premier League Southern Division including the likes of Fulham, Barnet, Millwall, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

 The pinnacle of English women's football is the FA Premier League National Division and features Arsenal, Everton, Leeds, Watford, Chelsea, Doncaster, Blackburn, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff and Charlton.

 Maidenhead United Ladies are on the lookout for new players for their first team and reserve team.
