Drax hoping for a 'special' season for the Magpies

With Maidenhead United FC's first pre season friendly at York Road against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday, July 15 fast approaching, Magpies boss Johnson 'Drax' Hippolyte hopes his side's list of prestigious home pre season games will be the start of a great season ahead for the club.
Maidenhead have lined up an exciting list of pre season games at York Road in July against Reading, Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United, Aldershot and Woking - starting with the visit of Wycombe on Tuesday, July 15.
And Drax believes fans who come to York Road to watch the pre season games will get a taster for things to come next season.
After guiding the Magpies to a promotion and two FA Cup first round appearances in his first two seasons as Maidenhead boss, Drax feels that next season could be an even better campaign than the last two.
"We've got a great set of pre season games at York Road," he said. "We are starting off with a fantastic game against Wycombe Wanderers on July 15 and we've also lined up games against Reading, Oxford United, Aldershot and Woking.
"Reading were in the Premier League last season, Wycombe and Aldershot are League Two clubs and Oxford United and Woking are in the Blue Square Premier. We could see some big crowds at these games.
"We've made some good signings and the pre season games will be a chance for supporters to see why I think they are the players that can help us do well next season."
Drax added: "We are working hard to get the players ready and are hoping we can get off to a good start next season.
"Last season was a success because we are still in the Blue Square South. But I am hoping for us to have a better season than last season this time.
"I would like to think we are capable of achieving a top half finish next season, and I am hoping we can reach at least the first round of the FA Cup again.
"Hopefully it is going to be a great season ahead. We've got some good league games and big crowds to look forward to at York Road with teams like AFC Wimbledon and Newport County in our division.
"It could be a special season for us."

Oldfield Primary School will be Maidenhead United's special guests for their first pre-season friendly at York Road against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday, July 15.
The Magpies are giving Oldfield School more than 200 free tickets to the game and Oldfield will provide match mascots and two teams for a half-time penalty shoot-out.

Match sponsors for the game against Wycombe on July 15 are the Holiday Inn Maidenhead, who sponsored last season's 5-0 win against Bishop's Stortford against York Road, a result that proved pivotal in keeping the Magpies in the Blue Square South.
United have just signed an affiliate deal with the Holiday Inn and IHG hotels, which means Maidenhead fans, visiting supporters and anyone who visits the Maidenhead United website has access to special rates at the Holiday Inn Maidenhead and at any IHG hotels worldwide.
More information about the IHG rates can be found on Maidenhead United's website: www.maidenheadunitedfc.co.uk

Maidenhead United FC have secured not one but two new home kit sponsors for the next two seasons - and will be changing the colours of their home shorts and socks.

The club's new main home shirts sponsor is lawn cutting specialists NiceNStripy - whose logo will appear on the front of Maidenhead United's black and white striped home shirts for the next two seasons.

And Maidenhead will be reverting to black shorts and red socks to complete their new-look home kit, a combination the club have used in the past.

NiceNStripy, the Maidenhead branch of the national NiceNStripy franchise, will also sponsor Stripes Bar as part of the home kit sponsorship deal.

And Maidenhead United have also secured Rugby Estates as their back-of-shirts sponsor for their home kit.

Jon Leuty, proprietor of the Maidenhead NiceNStripy franchise, said: "I jumped at the opportunity to sponsor Maidenhead United's home kit and Stripes Bar. I am a big football fan and it made perfect sense given the link with the NiceNStripy name, the black and white striped shirts and Stripes Bar.

"I came to a Maidenhead game last season as a guest of the club and enjoyed it. There was a really nice atmosphere and the friendly welcome I received was a factor in deciding to do the sponsorship.

"I am a Liverpool supporter, but I am now also a bonafide Maidenhead United fan and I am looking forward to coming to more games.

Leuty joked: "I did suggest changing the colours to dark green and light green stripes, as we are a specialist lawn-cutting company - but not surprisingly the club have decided to stick to black and white stripes!"

The new home kit and new home kit sponsors means Maidenhead United will start the 2008-9 season with new home and away kits and three new kit sponsors - with Harlequin Travel agreeing to sponsor the Magpies' new all-red away kit.

8th June 2008

Maidenhead United FC have secured a new away kit sponsor ahead of the start of the new football season - and will play in a new all-red away kit.
Harlequin Travel, a Wycombe-based coach company, have agreed to sponsor the team's away kit for the next two seasons.
The Harlequin Travel logo will appear on the front of the away shirts.
Harlequin Travel are Maidenhead United's preferred choice for coach travel for players to away games - and the sponsorship deal means Harlequin will continue to take the players to away games for the next two seasons.
In addition, Harlequin Travel will be the exclusive coach travel provider for Maidenhead fans for coach travel to away games for the next two seasons.
Harlequin Travel provided free coach travel for Maidenhead's players last season as part of an experiment to try to stop the team's poor run of results at home.
A coach collected the players at York Road before a home game and took them on a trip around east Berkshire before dropping them back at the ground.
Unfortunately the experiment did not have the desired effect as Maidenhead lost the game.
But the Magpies finally managed a second home league win in style with a 5-0 triumph against Bishop's Stortford on April 12 in front of more than 450 supporters - including Maidenhead's celebrity fan Toby Anstis.
That win was the start of a five match unbeaten run that secured Maidenhead's survival in Blue Square South, following their promotion the previous season.
Tim Edwards, Harlequin Travel's proprietor, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring Maidenhead United's away kit for the next two seasons. It makes sense for us to be the away team's sponsors as we take the Maidenhead players to all of their away games.
"The coach trip experiment last season was great fun and we were delighted with all the publicity that came with it - which all helps.
"We got used to bringing the Maidenhead players back from away games in a good mood last season as they had some great results away.
"We are really looking forward to next season as the club's new away kit sponsors and hope the team can do well away again and have a good season."
Maidenhead's 'away' coach trip experiment last season attracted regional and national media interest, including coverage on Thames Valley Tonight television, and in The Times, The Daily Record in Scotland, and the two national non league football newspapers - NonLeagueToday and The Non League Paper.
And news of the coach trip experiment reached Maidenhead United's overseas fans.
Frank Sollie, who runs Maidenhead United's official Norwegian fan club in Trondheim, said: "I thought it was a great idea. The away form was very good last season but the home form was a problem, so it was worth trying something different. Unfortunately, it didn't work that day, but Maidenhead stayed up and that was the main thing."
Mark Roach, Maidenhead United's commercial and community manager, said: "The coach trip experiment was a lot of fun last season and attracted a lot of interest - and we are grateful to Harlequin Travel for sponsoring the away kit for the next two seasons."
